Charlotte Rhead learned the craft of tube-lined decoration at T & R Boote in Burslem her first employer. In 1920 her father, Frederick Rhead, also a well-known potter, set up a company called Bursley Ltd., that produced art pottery and Charlotte joined the new company. There she trained a team of artists in the art of tube-lined decoration that is applied to the piece by squeezing a rubber bag attached to a fine glass nozzle.
In 1926 she moved to Burgess & Leigh the producers of Burleigh Ware. Charlotte Rhead's work is highly sought after by collectors.
